Big Brother's Sallie Axl's powerful miscarriage account sparks hospital debate
The reality star shares details of her 'disgusting ordeal' and triggers outburst of support from mums on social media
Big Brother star Sallie Axl has spoken about the allegedly compassionless and unsympathetic treatment she experienced after her miscarriage. Sallie took to Facebook to say she was given her dead baby in a plastic bag and "sent on my way home to grieve". Talking about the ordeal she said: "My dead baby was treated no more than someone handing me over a takeaway."
Sallie says she was told she'd was miscarrying on a previous visit to Saint Mary's Hospital in Manchester when she was 5 months pregnant. She'd gone home but, 7 weeks later, had started haemorrhaging and had been rushed back as an emergency. She says she was told she needed surgery to remove her baby, as her miscarriage hadn't fully happened naturally.
And it was the alleged lack of compassion that has left her calling for the NHS to change the way they treat women who suffer miscarriages.
"There was no compassion and one nurse referring to my unborn child as an 'IT' talking about getting her tested and speaking about taking a slivering off my baby," she said. "This should not happen to women who lose their unborn children!"
Sallie said she will be laying her daughter to rest this week and admits she has "only just started coming to terms with this ordeal".

After posting her story, mums were quick to tweet their support and report similar experiences.
A spokesperson from Saint Mary’s Hospital, Manchester said: “Although we are unable to comment on individual cases due to patient confidentiality, we are very proud of our services to support women who have undergone a miscarriage and are really very sorry if this has not been the case on this occasion.
"Unfortunately the family have not contacted us directly, and we would encourage them to make contact with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service so we can address any concerns on 0161 276 8686."
