Ex-Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews has given birth to a baby boy, eight weeks prematurely. Her yet-to-be named son was due in January next year but is said to be doing fine.

The 40-year-old singer and mum to a daughter and son from a previous marriage, had performed for Children In Need on November 20 at the Wales Millenium Centre just hours before she went into labour. Her partner, Steve Abbott, was by her side.

“How happy I am to let you know that our baby boy was born on Monday 23rd, 8 weeks earlier than we expected,” Cerys announced on his website. “We are doing very well and excited now to share this happy news with you, what an amazing surprise!”

Cerys announced she was expecting in August, her third but first with her partner Steve.
