Why we love it: The plush cloud lovely and soft and we love its friendly double-sided awake and asleep faces. The vibrating cloud teether was a big hit with our little testers.

5. Heimess Wooden Pram String Clip On, £16.45

Age: 3 months+

What it is: A 40cm-long pram string with wooden beads and a duck, ladybird and frog. Each animal has a small rattle attached to it and it's all been painted in bright, non-toxic, saliva-resistant colours.

Why we love it: The animals are a good size and we like their gently tinkling bells. The bee-design clips have a nice rubber backing – although they don't open very wide, so you'll need to clip it onto the fabric of your buggy/car seat rather than a bumper bar or handle. The super-bright colours definitely pleased our baby testers.

What it is: A 26cm x 25 cm soft, multi-sensory firefly with knotted legs, clinking ring tail, teether (with its own string and pocket), mirrors, squeaker, crinkle wings and lots of textured materials in its segmented body. Attaches with a clip ring.

Why we love it: There's definitely something about Freddie that fascinates babies. Maybe its his friendly smile or those tail rings (which are excellent to chew) or just all the different thing he has to touch and feel. He's definitely lovely and soft to cuddle, as well.

Why we love it: It's all the textures and crinkles that make this soft book special: we really like the 'blades of grass' the ladybird's hiding behind, and the smooth but crinkly snail's shell. Lovely bold colours, too.

8. Lamaze Tug & Play Knot, £15

Age: From birth

What it is: A knotted bundle of sliding cords in different colours, each ending with a different toy – from a star teether to a peek-a-boo mirror to a flower-shaped squeaker. Attaches with a clip ring.

Why we love it: It may not be the cutest looking stroller toy out there but it's amazingly well designed. The cords are just the right size for little hands to grab, and older babies will love pulling them back and forth through the knot. Lots of lovely textures and sounds.

Why we love it: It's a good size, super-easy to attach to all sorts of things and looks very stylish. The animals make good teethers and it comes in a very smart gift box.

What it is: A 25cm x 9cm x 22cm buggy spiral that wraps around your pram's bumper bar or your car seat's handle, with a dangling crinkle butterfly, bee rattle and ladybird with a mirror.

Why we love it: Recently updated in even brighter colours than our pic here, this spirally worm has a wonderfully friendly face (and very natty hat) and the touch-feely dangling animals are really nicely done. This one's a guaranteed smile-maker, if our testers are anything to go by!
