Home alone mum escapes jail
Binge drinking mother of four who abandoned her children gets suspended sentence
A mother of four children under four years has escaped a jail sentence after admitting leaving them home alone while she went on a drink and drugs bender.
Rebecca Stevenson, 27, from Blackburn pleaded guilty to child neglect after leaving her two boys and two girls, aged between three months and four years, alone in the house.
The children were found when her stepfather called at her house, finding the eldest child leaning out of a window crying, and the youngest hysterical in his cot upstairs.
Instead of being sent to jail, Rebecca was given a 20-month suspended sentence. All four children are now being cared for by their grandparents.
