26-year-old mum Sara Heller says she’s had her faith in humanity restored after a stranger’s generous gift to her son.

3-month-old baby Brody was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate - and to help ‘normalise’ his condition, Sara and her partner Chris decided to regularly share photos of their tot on social media.

Their platform of choice was Instagram, and it’s no shock that the adorable little guy is on his way to becoming a social media star.

But after an Instagrammer commented asking: “What’s wrong with his face?”, Sara discovered that 'normalising' was going to be tricky.

"I wasn't prepared to defend my 3-month-old and why he looks 'different' from other babies. I decided to educate rather than create a confrontation because that is what I want Brody to do in the future,” Sara told TODAY.

That all changed just a few hours after receiving the comment, says Sara. While in a restaurant, a waiter approached her to give her a piece of paper.

It just so happened to be a cheque for $1,000, from a complete stranger. A memo note beside it read: 'For the beautiful baby’.

“The generosity of a complete stranger restored our faith in humanity,” Sara admitted, again to TODAY.

“Being Brody's parent has taught me that people care. Strangers all over the country want to hear his story, and they want to pray for him.”

Since the kind gesture took place, Brody’s journey through cleft lip repair surgery has been documented on Sara’s Instagram… and it seems he’s well on the road to recovery.

Popsugar reports that the money from the cheque was used to help pay Brody’s medical bills (as the family are in the US).

They also report that he’s due to have 2nd surgery in a few months to repair his palate.

What a sweet story, right?
