The best-selling novel has already caused a stir among women across the world and has even been a hot topic in the forum, due to its raunchy storylines.

But now Professor Ellis Cashmore, expert in Culture at Staffordshire University, has forecast a baby boom for 2013 following the success of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy and the X-rated content within the plot.

‘By the very nature of the subject matter I’m sure we can expect to see some couples revisiting and reigniting ideas that may have lay dormant for some time in the bedroom,’ Professor Cashmore told the Daily Mail.

He said: ‘It’s not a difficult equation: more sex equals more pregnancies, which equals more babies.'

Some mums and mums-to-be may find it refreshing to be driving a potential spike in pregnancies next year. As Professor Cashmore pointed out, it has historically been sporting events that have inspired a baby boom, when igniting male passion in the bedroom.

'With the millions of copies it has sold - it makes complete sense to assume that in nine months time we are going see a baby boom,’ said Cashmore.
