Bets are being taken on the royal baby’s name and gender

Odds are being offered on anything from hair colour to the baby’s weight

Will she be a brunette like her mother or will he be a blonde like his father? And will the baby be called Charlotte, if a girl, or George, if a boy? Worldwide, bets are being taken on the royal baby.

Girls’ names dominate the top of the list after a member of the public claimed that Kate Middleton let the gender slip during a public visit to Grimsby. Paddy Power is offering the odds that Kate will give birth to a girl at 1/2.

The chances are, according to Paddy Power, that “we could soon be welcoming Princess Alexandra, born on 17th of July, with brown hair, weighing 7lbs.”

The Duchess of Cambridge experienced intense public speculation in the run up to the royal wedding, which was previously the biggest selling ‘novelty bets’ event of all time. Bookmakers expect more bets will be put on the baby. Rory Scott from Paddy Power told us: “Betting on the royal baby has caught fire with over 10,000 bets placed so far. We’re expecting a 30% increase on the royal wedding.”

Odds being offered on royal baby names:

Alexandra 3/1

Charlotte 6/1

Diana 7/1

Victoria 7/1

George 8/1

Louis 25/1

John 25/1
