Pop legend Elton John has admitted that he and his partner David Furnish were left “heartbroken” after their plans to adopt a Ukranian orphan boy and his brother were rejected. The 62-year-old singer set his sights on adopting 18-month-old Lev last September, only to be given the red light.
“There were too many laws that said we couldn’t do it in the Ukraine and it broke our hearts because we fell in love with these kids,” Elton told Showbiz Spy. The reasons the couple were denied the rights to adopt was down to Elton being too old and the fact that he and David, 47, were not ‘traditionally married’.
However, it hasn’t seemed to deter Elton from his adoption plans. “Life is all about learning, trying to change what you are. I think a child would possibly be the icing on the cake but, so far, no.”
Elsewhere, Patrick Swayze’s widow Lisa Niemi has revealed her plans to adopt a baby, despite her husband passing away a year ago. Talking about how she regrets not looking into IVF treatment while the Dirty Dancing star was alive, the 53-year-old plans to go it alone and start the family they always wanted. “I’ve always wanted a child,” she told Globe magazine.
