A dad has been told to pay his baby son £50 in compensation after hitting him across the face. The 24-year-old lost his temper when the youngster knocked a photo frame off a television while jumping up and down in his baby bouncer.
When the baby’s mum returned to their home in Devon, he told her he had to tell the baby off after a tantrum and had “clipped” him. But when the mother went to check on the baby, she found he had facial injuries and fingerprint marks on his cheek. She took the youngster to the doctor, who found the bruises were caused by a hand slap, and the police were called.
The dad, who can’t be named for legal reasons, then admitted slapping his son. Rachel Bentley, who defended him at Exeter Magistrates Court, said, “This was out of character. It was an isolated incident, and he is sorry.”
The father was given a 16-week jail sentence suspended for a year. He was also told to complete 60 hours of community service and pay £50 in compensation to his baby son, who is now 14 months old.
