EastEnders’ cast overcome with emotion filming cot death scenes

The stars of Albert Square offered counselling after filming sensitive scenes involving a newborn death and dramatic baby swap.

After we reported on the upcoming EastEnders cot death and baby swap storyline, many of you felt outraged and others felt that it helped raise awareness of cot death. However, it wasn’t just us who felt moved by the plot – the EastEnders cast and crew were also affected.

According to The Sun, the actors from the soap were offered counselling after filming the scenes, which see new mum Ronnie Mitchell lose her newborn baby to cot death and then desperately swap her dead child with the newborn baby of fellow new mum, Kat Slater.

Filming had to be halted after both crew and cast members were overcome with emotion at EastEnders headquarters, Elstree Studios.

“Most of the crew have never shot anything quite so sensitive. Filming stopped for over an hour as people found it hard to continue without breaking down,” a source told the newspaper.
