A source told The Sun that “Victoria ran it past David and they both want Eva.” The same source also claims that Eva is “extremely honoured” by the Beckham’s decision.

However, the Daily Mail later stated that a representative for the Beckhams had denied the rumour. "Victoria has not asked Eva to be a godmother and no christening plans have been discussed at this time."

Eva and Victoria are close friends and it was Eva, along with hair stylist Ken Paves, who threw a baby shower for the fashion designer last month.

The Desperate Housewives actress beat a variety of famous faces to the role of godparent, including, it is reported, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Gordon and Tana Ramsey and Heidi Klum and Seal.

Famous godparents are not a novelty to the Beckham children. Eva will be in exalted company, as Sir Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley are godparents to Brooklyn, 12, and Romeo, 8.

The Beckhams’ fourth child, a much-awaited girl, is due to be delivered by caesarean on July 4, American Independence Day.
