A Hatchimal is, without doubt, the most-wanted toy this Christmas, topping the DreamToys list of toy must-buys, but they’re frustratingly hard to find.
As parents everywhere are finding out, most supermarkets and toy shops have already sold out and, although more stock is expected to arrive this month, we understand that most of it has already been snapped up on pre-order.
The next batch of new stock is not expected to arrive until January 2017. ?
“The response to Hatchimals has been extraordinary, exceeding all expectations,” says a statement on the official Hatchimals site, before adding with, we think, not enough empathy, “We recognise it may be difficult finding this in-demand toy.
“This is a special time of year and we don’t want anyone to be disappointed… (well, they will be) More will be hitting retail shelves throughout November but we anticipate this inventory will sell quickly as well.”
What’s all the fuss about?
You’ve got to admit it, Hatchimals are a very cute idea. They start off as an egg and, if you love it and stroke it, it will light up and make little noises. Then, after a while, you’ll see a pair of rainbow eyes – and that means it’s ready to hatch!
And, as if the hatching’s not thrilling enough (and it really is good long session of chipping, cracking suspense), then you get to teach your Hatchimal to walk, talk, dance and play games.
So, where can I get one?
Well, there’s the thing. As we write, John Lewis, Argos, Toy R Us, Tesco, Smyths Toys and The Entertainer are all out of stock. There are a few to be had on Amazon and eBay, if you’re willing to pay WAY over the £59.99 recommended retail price – they’re currently selling on Amazon at £117 (£124 for the rarer Owlicorn Hatchimal) and on eBay for £70 to £90.
But we can offer you a little glimmer of hope: we have a Hatchimal to give away!
