How Panda the cat loved her baby ‘brother’ before he was even born

They say dogs are a man's best friend – but this caring feline is as protective as any trusty hound

We’ve all read stories of the amazing things dogs do for their families, and all too often, cats don’t get much of a look in.

They can be seen, just sometimes, as a little bit self-obsessed, and perhaps that bit more stand-offish than their doggy counterparts.

So here at MFM HQ – where we’re pretty big fans of all cute furry creatures – we found ourselves totally smitten with this story of a cat called Panda, who took on the role of protector for her owner Liel Ainmar Assayag’s unborn baby.

Liel posted photos on her Facebook page showing the feline cutie snuggling right up to her bump, bear-hugging it as if protecting the precious load inside, keeping it warm and safe from the outside world.

“Once I got pregnant she started following me around the house, tucking her head on my belly, purring,” Liel told LoveMeow.

Panda snuggled Liel’s bump constantly through her pregnancy – and the cuddles didn’t stop when the baby arrived.

Now Panda makes sure she’s there for Liel’s little boy at all times: “She jumps on the bed near him, smells him, sits next to him,” says Liel.

“You can clearly see she loved him from the beginning!” Awwww. Seems like the purrrfect partnership to us.
