It’s a boy – but Simon Cowell won’t watch his birth

Music mogul confirms the baby’s gender, but won’t be there for the delivery as “there are some things you shouldn’t see”

When asked if he was planning on attending his son’s birth, Simon Cowell responded: “Are you out of your mind?”

Simon, 53, was a guest on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show in the US. Simon said of the birth: “I know this sounds awful, but it’s like you don’t want to go into the restaurant while they’re making your dinner.

“I think there are certain things you shouldn’t see and that is one of them. I’ll be very close by, but no [I won't watch].”

He spoke openly about his relationship with his baby’s mother, New York socialite Lauren Silverman, 36, and his old-fashioned views weren’t just limited to attending the birth. When asked if he was planning to marry her, he said: “Let’s put it this way, I wouldn’t expect her to be a single mother.”

The couple can’t decide whether or not to bring up the baby in New York or London, but Simon is keen for him to sound like a Brit. “Obviously, I would have to make sure the baby has an English accent.

“I said to Lauren, ‘What if I just play me on tape while the baby is sleeping so the baby can hear me and have a British accent? His first words will be, 'You're absolutely useless!’”

He told Ryan that the idea of fatherhood had worried him in the past. “I genuinely never thought [being a Dad] was going to happen. Partly because I was scared of who I was going to have kids with... Lauren and I get along really well and once I got used to the idea I thought, ‘I think this is going to be very good’.”
