Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake are celebrating their son Silas’ 3rd birthday in just a few days ??
But they’ve also been looking back on their little one’s didn’t-quite-go-to-plan birth, in a short essay for a new parenting book called The Nanny Connie Way.
As it turns out, Jessica had fully focused her mind on a “hippie” natural home birth – and felt really overwhelmed when, at the last minute, she was rushed to hospital for an emergency caesarean.
“Our story with Nanny Connie started the day we brought our son home from the hospital,” Jessica wrote.
“That may sound like a normal statement coming from new parents, except our birth plan was anything but normal.
“We had two midwives, one doula, one meditation birthing class, a ton of hippie baby books, and a lovely home in the Hollywood Hills that we had turned into a labor training facility that we called The Octagon. So, not exactly normal.
“When all our plans fell apart and the serene, natural childbirth we had envisioned ended with a transfer to the hospital and an emergency C-section, we arrived home exhausted, disillusioned, and totally in shock.
“I was obsessed with everything organic, toxin-free, natural, and homeopathic for our kid, who came into this world in an operating room through an incision.
“I was a dictator, making myself and my husband insane!”
So, yep, it’s fair to say that Jessica’s birth plan ended up being just that – a plan. It certainly didn’t end up being her reality.
But we reckon that in itself is a pretty normal scenario for loads of mums out there, right?
Even so, it is still a huge shock to the system and a tad upsetting when you don’t have the labour you hoped or prepared for ?
Even though, deep deep down, you know the main thing is that you and your baby are both safe and healthy.
Three years on, it seems that Jessica is looking back on her original birth plan and laughing – or at the very least, it seems she’s made peace with her unexpected C-section ❤️
Have your say
Did you imagine a “serene” and “hippie” birth like Jessica – only to end up having a C-section? Perhaps another birth plan you’d made went awry in a different way?
We’d be very curious to know how many of you were able to stick to your birth plan, more or less. Let us know on Facebook or in the comments below.
