Katie Piper, who is expecting her first baby, is having a little girl.
She talked to HELLO! magazine about her pregnancy. “This baby doesn’t know it but she is changing my life in so many ways and it’s wonderful,” she said.
The model and TV presenter, who suffered horrific burns after being the victim of an acid attack five years ago, worried she’d struggle to have a baby.
“I feel so lucky,” she said, “because for any woman it’s a blessing to be able to conceive and carry a child, and to be honest, there was a time in my life when I thought I’d lost that privilege.”
Katie has rebuilt her life after surviving being raped by her ex-boyfriend, who later arranged for someone to throw sulphuric acid in her face. Her attackers are serving life sentences in jail for what they did to her.
Since the attack in 2008, Katie has started up her own charity, the Katie Piper Foundation, in 2009, which provides support services for burns victims.
“The other night I was at a charity ball and everyone I met wanted to talk to me about the baby, not about my burns and recovery. I thought, ‘Hallelujah’.”
“That’s the great thing about having a child … I feel like I have a new start and I can leave the past behind.”
