Be careful what you wish for has never rung more true than for American dad Dan Urbano.
The father of two clearly underestimated the power of the internet when he bet his son Remi, 7, and daughter Evelyn, 1, that only if they got 1,000 likes on Facebook could they have a pet cat.
Posing with a whiteboard message, the kids uploaded a picture on to their mother Marisa’s social networking page in a bid to win a fury friend for the family.
It read: “Hey FACEBOOK! My sister and I REALLY want a CAT! My Papa PROMISES we can get one if we can get 1000 LIKES! PLEASE like this picture! Thank you.”
Mum even joined in on the act and posted, “We really want a cat named Hairy Pawturrr. If you can’t like, share. Shares count too!”
And, boy, did the photo take the web by storm!
The adorable post went viral and collected nearly 120,000 likes and more than 100,000 shares across the globe.
Dan honoured the bet and picked up a cat for the children from a local animal shelter near their home in Boston.
The tabby cat was finally named Hairietta L. Pawturr in honour of the kids favourite Harry Potter books, with the middle initial ‘L’ representing all the Likes the picture received.
“We figured our friends and maybe their friends would be nice and kind and share with each other,” Marisa told US TV show Good Morning America, reports the Metro.
“Never, ever did we think this was going to happen.”
And it seems that having a pet may be the secret to a fulfilled life after a 72-year-long research programme has discovered that owning a puppy and building a relationship with it could be the key to a happy life, reports The Telegraphthis week.
