Before Kim and Kanye became ‘Kimye'
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were friends long before they became husband and wife, and parents to their 2 children: daughter North and son Saint.
Kanye had long been interested in Kim - reportedly since 2004. The pair had been friends for many years.
In 2006, the couple were spotted together at a party in West Hollywood. In 2007, it’s been reported that Kanye told Kim that he’d marry her one day.
Kim later began dating NFL player Reggie Bush, and Kanye began dating model Amber Rose.
More like this
Their friendship continued into 2010, around the time Kanye’s relationship with Amber Rose came to an end.
But in February 2011, Kim went public with her whirlwind romance with Kris Humphries, a basketball player whom she subsequently married on 20 August 2011 in a lavish, televised ceremony.
In October 2011, Kim left Kris Humphries, officially filing for divorce after 72 days of marriage.
Kim and Kanye fall in love
In April 2012, lyrics in Kanye’s song Theraflu gave the game away: he fell in love with Kim around the same time she fell in love with Kris Humphries. Quite literally.
The lyrics read: "...and I'll admit, I fell in love with Kim 'round the same time she had fell in love wit' him. Well, that's cool, baby girl, do ya thing,”
Meanwhile, sister Khloe Kardashian addressed the Kimye rumours with chat show host Ellen Degeneres: "We've known Kanye forever.
"He's been a great family friend... I think [Kim and Kanye are] cute together... They're compatible."
But now, Kim was finally single, though still going through divorce proceedings. So in the same month, April 2012, Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Kim (finally, some might say) began dating her long-time friend Kanye West.
Kim Kardashian’s 1st pregnancy
After around 6/7 months of dating, Kanye announced that Kim was pregnant with their 1st child during his concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
"It's true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us.
"Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!!” Kim confirmed on her official website.
Kim debuted her bump shortly after, sharing a cheeky shot of her and sister Khloe with her huge following on Twitter.
It was revealed that Kim was due in July 2013 - the same month Kate Middleton was due to give birth to her 1st child, Prince George.
Sources also claimed that Kim could bank around £10 million during her pregnancy. That’s some savings account!
Kim very openly dealt with pre-eclampsia throughout her 1st pregnancy - read more about this condition here.
North West
Kim gave birth to her and Kanye’s 1st child, a baby girl, on 15 June 2013. She was delivered at 34 weeks, almost 6 weeks early.
After labour, Kim suffered from placenta accreta, which means the placenta remains attached inside the uterus instead of coming out.
Aside from that, Kim said her delivery was “fairly easy”, as she wrote in a detailed post on her official website.
The couple famously named their new arrival North, to be nicknamed ‘Nori’, meaning her full name was indeed North West.
And also rather famously, Kim also revealed exactly what she did as soon as she’d given birth to North.
The TV personality told Khloe on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians: “The first thing I did was go and look at my vagina in the mirror. It looks better-looking than before.”
She also opened up about her 1st labour experience, elaborating: “Labour was honestly the easiest thing ever. I did not feel one thing.
"Like, it was not hard. And then just staring at her… everything that they say that happens is so true, like you fall so in love and it’s this deep connection.”
Kim also divulged with her E! reality show viewers that she was breastfeeding.
Kim and Kanye’s wedding
On 24 May 2014, it was time for Kim and Kanye to tie the knot and become husband and wife. The pair said their vows at the beautiful Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy.
The 1st photos of the ceremony were released via E! Entertainment, and showed Kim in a gorgeous bespoke Givenchy gown, Kanye sporting a simple black tux, and 2 giant walls adorned with white flowers.
Oh, and Andrea Bocelli sang Ave Maria as Kim walked down the aisle.
Celeb guests included Jonathan Cheban, John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen, Tyga, Jaden Smith and Blac Chyna - though none as adorable as mini-celeb North West, the couple’s daughter - and get this, the wedding cost a reported $2.8 million.
Kim Kardashian’s 2nd pregnancy
On 1 June 2015, it was revealed on the Keeping Up With The Kardashians finale that Kim and Kanye were expecting baby no 2.
The baby news was especially joyous - given that Kim openly struggled to conceive again after giving birth to North.
She told Elle a few months prior: "I want a boy and another girl; I want it to start happening straight away.
"I loved being part of a huge family - and I want that for North. We'd do IVF if nothing happens, but we both want to keep trying naturally.
"A few years ago I was told I could never get pregnant. Three different doctors told me the same thing, which is why I wanted to have my eggs frozen.
"I was just about to do that when I found out I was pregnant with North.”
And said in May that she and Kanye were trying ‘every day’ to conceive. She revealed she’d been to numerous fertility doctors, with one even telling her: "I would need my uterus removed after I had another baby - I could only have one more.”
Kim openly admitted in a blog on her official website that her 2nd pregnancy was deemed ‘high-risk’ after having placenta accreta and pre-eclampsia the 1st time round.
She concluded by saying she was trying not to stress out, instead trying to go with the flow.
Saint West
On 5 December 2015, Saint West was welcomed into the world. Originally due around Christmas Day, Kim was induced early due to medical concerns regarding what she’d experienced during her pregnancy with North.
Fortunately, both Kim and Saint were healthy. A statement for the couple said: "Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West welcomed the arrival of their son this morning. Mother and son are doing well."
Kim Kardashian’s Paris robbery
In October 2016, news broke across the world that Kim had been robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel, where she’d be visiting for Paris Fashion Week.
Kim was understandably very shaken, though was said not to be hurt, despite allegedly being tied up and left in a bathtub. The robbers stole a reported millions of dollars worth of jewellery.
North and Saint, nor Kanye, were not with her at the time.
Kim went on a ‘social media blackout’, with friends and family members maintaining content production for her official app/website.
In January 2017, 17 people were arrested in conjunction with Kim’s ongoing case.
Kanye West’s hospitalisation
On 22 November 2016, weeks after his wife was attacked in Paris, Kanye was hospitalised for ‘temporary psychosis’ in a California facility for a week.
Mother-in-law Kris Jenner told Extra: “He’s exhausted, he’s just really tired. He’s had a grueling tour and it’s been a grind so he just needs some rest.”
On 30 November 2016, Kanye was released from hospital. Around this time, rumours swirled that Kim and Kanye were headed for divorce - though these have been vehemently denied.
2017 and beyond
As of January 2017, Kim returned to social media, sharing old-school snaps of her with husband Kanye, daughter North and son Saint.
Kanye and Kim have been spotted out and about in public, still looking very much together.
Kim and Kanye use surrogacy
It was revealed in August 2017 that Kim and Kanye were expecting their 3rd child, via surrogate. Kim was advised not to have a 3rd pregnancy of her own, due to the placenta accreta she had while pregnant with North and Saint.
Chicago West
On 15 January 2018, at 12:47am, Kim and Kanye welcomed their 3rd child, a baby girl called Chicago, weighing 7lb 6oz.
"Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl," she wrote.
"We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care.
"North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister. Love, Kim Kardashian West."
Baby no 4
Kim and Kanye decided to opt for surrogacy again, and baby no 4 was born on 10 May 2019. We know the new baby is a boy - but we're still waiting to hear his name, though there has been plenty of speculation on social media, as you'd imagine.
Kim posted a teddy bear pic on Twitter, encouraging fans to speculate he's Teddy - or maybe Bear.
Others have been offering suggestions for monikers that go well with Kim and Kanye's other children: Saint, North and Chicago.
One follower commented: "You could name him Omega? Means “The End.” Directional-ish like North. Biblical like Saint. 3 syllables like Chicago." We like it! We'll let you know if Kim goes for any of these suggestions as soon as we find out!
