It’s always a good sign when more than half of the audience is dressed up as a princess. Particularly when the performance is an on-ice version of Disney’s classic princess and hero tales.
On arrival, the MFM team instantly realised we hadn’t got the dress-code memo and had to rush to the merchandise stand for a wand and a princess crown. Much better!
Suitably attired we headed rink-side ready for Mickey and Minnie to introduce the show. If we were excited, our under 10s companions were beside themselves. The real show began with a fabulous re-enactment of the opening scenes of Aladdin’s first meeting with Jasmine, complete with a jaw dropping set and a very nimble Aladdin spinning around in unbelievable circles on the ice. Not to mention a lively appearance by Abu!
Ice is the perfect backdrop for Disney’s stories, capturing the magic perfectly and infusing the whole show with a sense of amazement, drawing plenty of gasps from everyone (not just the little ones in the crowd!).
Mickey and Minnie hold the show together, sliding in between scenes and dressing in a very snazzy version of their usual outfits for the finale.
Best bits: The Little Mermaid scenes, especially Under the Sea; Cinderella’s fabulous carriage somehow safely making it round the rink and singing along to all our favourite classics at the top of our voices.
Definitely an extra special treat for little princes and princesses!
