Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni: baby plans for 2011?

Rumours claim that a ‘pregnancy card’ may be played at next election

French magazine Voici has made spectacular claims that the 54-year-old French president and his model wife, Carla Bruni, 41, have planned a date to have a baby – right in time for the next election.

In order to ensure popularity and interest during the next presidential campaign in 2012, the couple are rumoured to have pencilled in a date of conception giving them a chance to play the ‘pregnancy card’ to generate votes.

The couple have made no secret on their desire to have children together and are keen to add to their brood. Nicolas already has three sons, Pierre, 24, Jean, 22, and 12-year-old Louis from two previous marriages and Carla has an 8-year-old son, Aurelian, from a past relationship.

Pregnancy plans are rumoured to have been reignited after Nicolas recently collapsed while jogging. Due to the level of public support he received, Voici magazine claims that he is now convinced the same sympathy strategy will work if Carla was to fall pregnant.

The president has previously raised eyebrows over his personal relationships when he rapidly, and very publicly, entered a whirlwind love affair with Carla Bruni which saw them get hitched a mere three months after they met at a dinner party.
