Call us impatient, but we were just about giving up hope of ever seeing a selfie of Rebecca Adlington’s daughter Summer. The 26-year-old gave birth to her first child over a month ago on 8 June and understandably, we’ve heard hardly a peep out of the new mum since.
But now the new mum has broken her social media hiatus and shared her first family picture. “Ah there she is! What a beauty. Feel like I’ve been waiting a lifetime for this photo. Sending you all lots of love x,” one fan commented.
“She looks so much like the both of you she’s beautiful ♡♡♡,” another added.
Rebecca named her 5-week-old Summer as a tribute to her triumph in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. “When we realised Becky had won her medals in summer, that we got married in summer, and that our baby was born in summer, it made perfect sense to name her after our favourite time of year,” Rebecca’s husband Harry Needs told Hello! magazine.
And now Rebecca – who lives in Stockport near Manchester – hopes her daughter will follow her parents into the family trade. “I really would love her to get into the world of sport, but I’m not bothered if it’s not swimming. I just feel sport gives you so much more in life,” she said. “My sport taught me everything that I am today, be dedicated and driven, committed, and you get to travel the world and meet amazing people.”
Last week, the new mum revealed just how tiring her time away from the spotlight has been. “Can’t believe our baby girl is 4 weeks old today! Most tiring but best 4 weeks of our lives,” she tweeted.
But she’s revealed just how thankful she is for her fans’ support, sharing a picture of the gifts she’s received for her baby.
