How did Robbie Williams meet Ayda Field?
Popstar Robbie and Hollywood actress Ayda were set up by friends in 2006/2007, something detailed in Robbie's official biography, Reveal (as reported by The Sun).
A pal told him: ‘"I’ve got a friend for you, she’s f***ing crazy but she might be fun for an evening."
“I googled her, she was obviously very attractive. But I was also doing a lot of pills that were making me antisocial. So we had plans but I flaked," Robbie admitted.
“I left her a message days, weeks, later, and it made her laugh. We made plans to meet. But I wasn’t leaving my house, so she had to meet me there, which freaked her out a bit.
More like this
“Porsche door opens and out of the back seat clambers this girl. She’s wearing a dress with pockets and it makes her look frumpy, and my first thought was, ‘Oh, she’s put on a lot of weight’.
“In she came, and she’s had a few red wines. I don’t think the situation suited her, being at a stranger’s house, coming from a party.”
Robbie decided to escort her back to the party. He says: “It’s a tech party with tech people. It was like Revenge of the Nerds.
“So I got tucked into a lot of drugs. Anyway, I took a turn for the worse, because I started to cluck like a chicken."
Ayda stayed with him at home for 3 weeks, after the party, to look after him. “She nursed me, gave me exactly what I needed at that moment, a bit of loving.
"She saw me at my worst the first night. And, quite interestingly, liked it."
Robbie and Ayda's wedding
On 7 August 2010, after 3 years of dating, Robbie and Ayda married in a secret ceremony in California.
60 guests arrived at Robbie’s LA home, with no idea the couple were about to get hitched… of course, it didn’t remain a secret for long!
They shared the news publicly 10 days later, when the couple’s wedding photos appeared exclusively in a spread for Hello magazine. Ayda’s stunning wedding dress was made by famed gown designer Monique Lhuillier.
Robbie performed an impromptu rendition of Angels for his guests, and as for bridesmaids? Well, the couple had their 8 dogs...
"Ayda looked like the most beautiful girl in the world,” Robbie told the mag.
"The setting was so magical, and to be surrounded by family and close friends and then see Ayda appear looking so radiant was almost too much for me to take.
“When I walked down the aisle with our dogs and heard everyone cheering it made me so emotional I'm surprised I held it together. I'm the happiest man alive."
Ayda took Robbie’s surname. Her mum’s maiden name is Field – the surname she uses – and now goes by Ayda Field Williams.
Theodora Rose Williams
Baby Theodora Rose was born on 18 September 2012 - and straight away, nicknamed Teddy.
Robbie and Ayda have mostly kept their kids away from the spotlight, but we do know bits and pieces about their family life.
One thing we know for sure? The little one certain loves her daddy!
“I was on Skype with [Teddy] this morning and totally unprompted - she’s not even 2 yet - straight away she looked at the screen and went 'I lub you daddy, come here'." Robbie's said previously. “It doesn’t get better than that."
As a 4-year-old, she decided she wanted to get a tattoo – to match dad Robbie’s heavily-tatted body. Aw!
Nearly 6-year-old Teddy's also a big Taylor Swift fan. She even met her idol when Robbie performed with her on stage, in London...
Ayda's 2nd pregnancy
In April 2014, Ayda and Robbie revealed they were expecting their 2nd child in November that year.
Robbie was touring in Australia at the time, and told reporters that after having Teddy (then almost 2), he no longer felt daunted by the responsibilities of dad-hood.
“I was always terrified of the responsibility of being a father and being pinned down,” Robbie admitted to Daily Mail Australia.
“But the most surprising thing about being a dad is what you get back.”
Charlton Valentine Williams
On 27 October 2014, Ayda and Robbie welcomed a son, named Charlton Valentine Williams, and nicknamed Charlie.
Robbie joked around through Ayda’s labour – sharing numerous YouTube vids of him annoying Ayda mid-labour.
Vids included Robbie dancing to his own track Candy while Ayda lay in her hospital bed, having a contraction – and telling her about his trousers while she breathed deeply through the pain.
He even shared a video of Ayda pushing him and baby Charlie in a wheelchair out of the hospital.
Fortunately, Ayda saw the funny side – and later shared that her hubby’s antics had kept her distracted from the pain!
She even starred in her own cheeky labour vid – dancing to Iggy Azalea’s Fancy while her unimpressed hubby sat in a chair.
Robbie on fatherhood
It was no secret that Robbie was, erm, worried about the responsibilities of being a dad.
But, as he told boyband One Direction (2 of whom, as it happens, are now 20-something dads), after welcoming Charlie:
“[Having kids is] f***ing brilliant, I thought it was one of the biggest own goals I’ve ever scored, I pretty much thought that life would be over. But it’s completely enhanced it.
“Take this with you, if you find the right girl, and she’s f***ing great, when you’re way into your thirties, don’t be scared about having a kid. It’s brilliant.”
Robbie and Ayda on The X Factor
In 2018, it was revealed that Robbie would be joining Simon Cowell and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson as judges on the latest season of The X Factor.
And that he'd only agreed to do it if his actress wife was invited to join the panel, too. On her lack of specific music experience, he told Metro:
"Ayda is my rock. She has looked after me through thick and thin, and absolutely every career move I’ve made over the last 12 years has been OK’d by my wife.’
"Ayda’s a member of the general public too, and the general public usually get it right. Ayda does know about music but nobody has a formula for what’s going to make a pop star.
"If we got anybody from the street then their opinion would be just as valid, too."
Simon also added that, after a dinner party at his house with the new judges, he just knew the chemistry between them all would work!
Baby no 3, Colette Josephine Williams
On Monday 3 September 2018, Ayda shocked the couple's fans by revealing they'd welcomed their 3rd child via a surrogate.
She wrote beside the above snap, on Instagram: "I spy with my little eye an extra little hand ?
"So, we have been keeping a very special secret! We are delighted to share with you that we have had a baby girl….welcome to the world Colette (Coco) Josephine Williams!! ??"
Ayda hinted that the couple may have experienced some fertility issues, adding:
"It has been a very long and difficult path to get here, which is why we have kept it on the down low.
"Family comes in all forms, and this little lady, who is biologically ours, was carried by an incredible surrogate mother, to whom we will be eternally grateful.
"We are over the moon to have this beautiful baby girl in our lives and so blessed that we live in a world which makes this possible.
"As with Teddy and Charlie, we ask that you respect Coco’s privacy and allow us to grow into our new team of 5! #TeamWilliams"
