Robert Downey Jr announces birth of baby girl on Facebook
Iron Man actor chooses unusual name for his third child, based on grandparents' names
Robert Downey Jr has announced the birth of his baby girl. The Iron Man actor’s wife Susan Levin gave birth to his third child earlier this week. The dad-of-3 might be a Hollywood blockbuster actor, but he still announced his baby’s birth the way most of us do – on Facebook!
"After 9 months of intensive development, Team Downey is pleased to announce our 2014 fall/winter project," Robert posted on Facebook. “Principal photography commenced 11-14 and will continue until she says, 'Dad! You are embarrassing me...I'm 30, this has gotta stop.'"
Robert has revealed her name is Avri Roel. The unique name is pronounced Ay-Vree and is an English variant of the name Avery and means 'a noble and wise ruler'.
Avri’s middle name is believed to come from her grandparents’ names. The first 2 letters of Roel are for the star’s father, Robert Downey Sr., and his wife Rosemary. They’re also a tribute Susan’s mum, Rosie. The last 2 letters are for the actor’s mother Elsie and Susan’s father, Eliot Levin, according to People magazine.
The name is certainly as unusual as the couple’s 2-year-old son’s name Exton and Indio, Robert’s 21-year-old son from a previous marriage.
"Yep...Avri Roel Downey joined the party @ 3:22 a.m. on November 4th...she's 7lbs even, spans 20 inches, and is accompanied by a variety of Susan's traits that have seemingly overwritten my 'junk DNA.' I'll post pics here + there when I'm not too busy staring..." he finished.
Congratulations both! What do you think of Avri’s unusual name?
