Royal bump goes into hiding as Kate starts ‘maternity leave’

Duchess of Cambridge made final public outing before her due date

Kate Middleton has made her final public appearance before going on maternity leave. The Duchess of Cambridge was all smiles as she arrived at the Stephen Lawrence Centre in Deptford with her husband Prince William. And she clearly had her little baby-to-be on her mind as she placed a protective hand over her bump.

When asked when her baby was due, she said: “I’m due mid-April to the end of April. Not long to go now.” But the Daily Mail have reported that Kate’s due date is 25 April – in 4 weeks time.

Kate is expected to give birth at the private Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, West London – where Prince George was born in July 2013. The big brother-in-waiting will be 21 months older than his little brother or sister when he or she arrives.

On Kate’s last public engagement before the birth, she met Doreen Lawrence at the centre named after her son, who was just 18 when he was murdered in 1993. The centre is a Home-Start charity, which helps young children and their families.

Kate dressed up for the occasion in a shocking pink double-breasted Mulberry coat that set her back £1,500. Well, we can’t blame her for going out in style.

Kate’s maternity leave started as soon as the engagement was over and we’re unlikely to see her in public again until she introduces her new baby to the world.

Here are MFM, we’re looking forward to a few weeks spent staring at the door of St Mary’s Hospital as we wait for news of the most anticipated baby of the year – there are probably few members of the press camped out there already.

Bye Kate! Enjoy your nesting period and get that hospital bag packed!
