A black bear with a sweet tooth literally crashed baby boy’s birthday party in Juneau, Alaska.
Little Jackson Merrill was about to celebrate his 1st birthday with his mum Alicia Bishop and dad Glenn Merrill, when an uninvited guest made a dramatic entrance and decided to take the cake.
As Jackson’s parents made preparations for the party, Glenn heard a cracking sound coming from his living room skylight.
“Next thing you know, there’s this bear that, I mean, literally, fell right from [the skylight]. It was three feet away from me,” he told the Juneau Empire.
Jackson’s grandparents quickly took their grandson upstairs to safety, whilst mum watched from behind a glass door. Dad Glenn managed to jump into a nearby room, but noticed that the bear “was awfully calm” and seemed well-adjusted to humans.
Once the bear had recovered from its fall, it only seemed interested in wandering around. Fortunately, the family were unhurt but Jackson’s birthday lemon blueberry and peanut butter cupcakes didn’t make it.
“The bear walks over and puts its paws up on the table and starts licking his birthday cupcakes,” Alicia said.
“I’m just like, `You’ve got to be kidding me!'”
Eventually, the parents managed to shoo the bear out into their back garden – but he kept coming back for more.
“It was up by the window like, ‘I want more cupcakes.’”
Glenn then called 911 and Alicia borrowed some bear spray from a neighbour, which prompted the bear to return to the woods.
