Zoos, wildlife parks and even theme parks are celebrating (in England at least) after the news that they were being allowed to start re-opening – obviously with safety restrictions. Several of these wildlife attractions had revealed that they were fighting for survival and called for the public to support their call for relaxing lockdown regulations for outdoor attractions.

“We were in despair, not knowing when we would re-open or if we could even survive much longer… but your voices have been heard,” declares a statement from Chester Zoo (a zoo that has been creating fantastic Facebook lives and videos during lockdown). “Your support has been incredible. Every kind donation, every word of support. It really did make a HUGE difference.

“The fight isn’t over for us just yet. There’s no denying that we have suffered severe financial damage over the past three months and the road to recovery will be long and uncertain. But, your incredibly kind donations, animal adoptions and memberships have given us a vital lifeline.”

While each individual attraction will have its own safety regulations and procedures – which may mean some parts of the parks and zoos won’t be open – there are some basic changes that all will follow including:

  • All tickets will need to be pre-booked (in order to keep numbers limited)
  • Keeping 2m safe distance at all times
  • Hand sanitisers will be available
  • Some toilet facilities may be closed
  • Some food/shop facilities may be closed
