1. Is it Christmas yet?

For very young children, Is It Christmas Yet? by Jane Chapman is a beautiful board book about a baby bear who wants to be more involved in the festive preparations.

But after wasting all the wrapping paper and a calamity with the tree, Little Bear is not very popular with his daddy. But all is not lost as the pair decide to put the disastrous day behind them and decorate what’s left of the tree.

This book is very amusing and will resonate with many parents who struggle to contain their child’s eagerness to help!

2. How many sleeps till Christmas?

How Many Sleeps till Christmastells the story of Little Pip, another little bear who simply cannot wait for Christmas to arrive.

As soon as he wakes up he rushes to find his daddy as today must be the day! But it isn’t and daddy bear is getting a little bit weary.

This is a beautifully crafted story by Mark Sperring with cuddly illustrations by Sebastien Braun which encapsulates a child’s excitement and a parent’s need for patience! Great story for sharing with your over-eager elf!

3. Alfie’s Christmas

The character of Alfie is one of the most endearing in children’s literature, and so it follows that Alfie’s Christmas is a wonderfully warm festive story that you will bring out year after year.

Join Alfie and his little sister Rose as they prepare for the big day – opening advent calendars, making decorations and writing their Christmas lists.

Written by the multi-award-winning Shirley Hughes, this perfectly captures the anticipation of the run-up to Christmas seen through the eyes of a child.

4. The Twelve Days of Christmas

The Twelve Days of Christmas is a festive favourite and there are numerous books that retell the rhyme.

One of my favourites is by Jane Ray as it has lots to look at and spot on every page and is a nice book to sit down with at the end of a busy day.

It’s a great song for the children to try and master with everyone singing their loudest on Five Gold Rings! A perfect story to use as part of your Christmas countdown.

5.  25 Crafts for Christmas: A Keep-Busy Book for Advent

A great way to cope with the build-up to the big event is to keep the children busy! And 25 Crafts for Christmas: A Keep-Busy Book for Advent has some fantastic projects – including making your own Christmas cards, gift boxes and decorations – which will keep little hands occupied for at least some the time.

All the crafts are very manageable and don’t really require a huge financial outlay – all you need is lots and lots of glitter – but at this time of year that is never a bad thing!
