Cons

  • Hard to follow instructions, uses a lot of space, food gets stuck under blade, not portable, pricey

Babymoov delivers innovative pregnancy and baby products, designed to make parents' lives a little easier. In particular, Babymoov is well known for creating useful, stylish and high-spec baby food makers, with the Nutribaby ONE being the latest model. For a 4-in-1 food processor, the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE is an uncomplicated appliance that claims to do it all. It steams, blends, defrosts and reheats food, making it useful for the first stages of baby-led weaning all the way through to sharing meals with the family. Unlike older models, it doesn’t have a bottle warmer function, instead benefitting from a simplified one-button feature that’s intuitive to use – especially for sleep-deprived parents. Stylish, symmetrical, and more compact than its previous 5-in-1 machines, it’s best suited to larger families, older babies and bigger kitchens. Coming in at £119.99, it's certainly one of the pricier baby food makers, just a touch more affordable than the Baby Brezza One Step Food Maker Deluxe, £159, and the Beaba Babycook Neo, £160. It was winner of our Editor's Choice award in the MadeForMums Award 2022.

Tested by

Becky Freeth, a journalist, lives in Surrey. She tested the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE with her 10-month-old son as he moves onto the next stage of weaning, trialling the appliance with finger foods as well as making purées in the blender.

What were your first impressions?

The first thing I noticed was that the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE food processor came pre-built, so I didn’t need to work out any parts. This meant I simply attached the lead to the appliance and it was ready to go! Visually, it’s a really stylish model that looks nice on my worktop, in colours that would complement most modern kitchens.

How easy was the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker to set up?

Although the processor was already assembled, the instructions weren’t as easy to follow. Babymoov is a French brand, so the online guides and how-to videos didn’t help. The manual inside the box didn’t mention the power button at the back of the device, which was the most important instruction for getting set up! It was also unclear from the pictures where the water should be added for steaming. Luckily, however, I was able to work it out within just a few minutes.

What did you think of the design of Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker?

Visually, it’s a really stylish product ideal for contemporary kitchens. I particularly liked its Farrow & Ball-style duck egg and grey colour, and how robust the base feels. While fellow MFM Parent Tester Eloise Drake and I agree this element is sturdy and well put together, I feel that the lids for the bowls seem quite flimsy, especially the way they fix to the bases.

How does this version compare to previous Babymoov baby food makers?

Past versions of the Babymoov Nutribaby have featured a bottle steriliser and warmer. Although this would have been beneficial for a newborn, I didn’t consider using a food processor until my baby was weaning. Overall, it makes this model much simpler because the steamer is activated using one button – there’s no temperature adjustment, no timer, and no need to select a function. It's also cheaper at £119.99, compared to the other models' £159.99 and £164.99 RRPs.

How does the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE compare to other baby food makers you’ve used?

I’ve tested the Philips Avent 2-in-1 Healthy Baby Food Maker in the past, which contains a blade and steamer in one jar, so that you can blend food in the same container you’ve heated it. With the Nutribaby ONE, I found it useful to blend and steam at the same time, but often I wanted to purée the vegetables I was steaming, with transferring them to a different jar creating more washing up.

What different functions does the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker have?

This baby food processor is a 4-in-1 machine that can steam, defrost and reheat on one side – and blend on the other. The steaming function is useful for finger foods but also batch-cooking bigger meals that you can make into purées afterwards. If you freeze or refrigerate them for a later date, you can use the cooking side to prepare them again another time.

How do you actually use the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker?

With minimal settings and no heat options, you simply use the Nutribaby ONE as follows:

  • Switch on using the power button at the back
  • Use the cooking button at the front to activate the steam, defrost and reheat functions
  • Use the blending button on the top in 5-second bursts to process food

What would you say is the unique selling point of the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker?

Nutribaby food processors are known for being ‘all-in-one’ machines that mean you don’t need to steam on the hob, mix in a blender or defrost in the microwave. This means you only need one product to make a whole meal! However, the biggest USP of the Nutribaby ONE specifically is the one-button function. Compared to older versions, which included heat and function settings, this product is uncomplicated – just what new parents want and need!

How effective is the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE when steaming?

MFM Parent Tester Eloise particularly liked this aspect, saying: “The steaming function works brilliantly and ensures all the nutrients are kept within the food with the steaming tray at the bottom, keeping excess water to add to your purée to thin out if needed. After steaming, it’s easy to pour into the blender next to it, and the clear container makes it easy to see when you’ve reached the desired consistency.”

Does the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker defrost?

Yes, although the defrost function is harder to understand as the instructions don’t clearly indicate how long a dish will take to defrost. Instead, I had to keep checking the food and temperature testing it myself.

Does the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker blend well?

When it came to using this food processor for blending, I noticed that unless I was mixing a large capacity of food, purées and smaller vegetables such as onions got stuck underneath the blade and didn’t blend as well. This meant stopping it, stirring it and then blending once again.

Were the timings of the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker easy to work out?

Not really. The steamer stops automatically when all of the water in the heating tank has transferred to the liquid collector, so you have to know roughly the weight of the food you’re steaming to know how much water to put in. Another mum we found online who also tested this agreed that this is a disadvantage, as once it switches off you can’t automatically restart the processor, which can cause issues.

What is the capacity of the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker?

This is an impressive feature of the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE. In total, it holds 2 litres, which allows you to cook for the whole family using one machine. The cooking side holds 1.3 litres over 2 levels, so you could easily steam vegetables and protein at the same time. On the blending side, there’s room for 700ml.

Is the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker easy to clean?

All of the parts are detachable, including the blade, and all are dishwasher safe, making it easy to clean. However, because you have to transfer food from the main bowl to the blending bowl, it does create a lot of washing up.

Does the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE make a lot of noise when using?

As with any blender, the mixing option is noisy, but it’s not a high-pitched or irritating sound. It’s also only designed to be used for bursts of five seconds at a time. The steamer, meanwhile, is satisfyingly silent and doesn’t feature button beeps or completion tones.

What are your favourite features of the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker?

MFM Parent Tester Eloise said: “I like the fact that the steamer doesn’t take long to warm up, which is great when you’re in a rush. There are also handy millilitre measurements on the steamer tray, to allow you to add enough water depending on the food you are steaming.” I was personally impressed with the light on the cooking button that tells you the appliance is switched on. It’s good from a safety perspective, but it’s also useful, because there are no cooking noises or other beeps from the machine.

What size is the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE – and how compact is it in your kitchen?

This machine takes up a lot of space on my work surface because it measures H34cmxW29cmxD18cm – although Eloise said “it isn't as bulky as other baby products and looks stylish on the kitchen workspace.” It’s unlikely it would replace my microwave, but it could well depend on the size of your kitchen!

Is this food processor portable enough to take on a family holiday?

No, as the base is too big. The Nutribaby ONE is, however, easy to move from room-to-room or around the kitchen, because it’s light and has just one power cable.

What’s in the box?

  • The food processor
  • Power cable (United Kingdom)
  • Power cable (European)

Are there any additional accessories you can buy for the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE?

Babymoov sells food storage pots called Babybols, from £6.99, but they’re not essential for using the Nutribaby ONE.

Who would the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker be most useful for?

This appliance is best suited to parents who are just starting to wean their baby, because it can be useful from first flavours to full family dinners. With separate bowls and two levels in the cooking bowl, this product is handy for families with allergies or different tastes, too, because it’s easy to keep different foods away from each other. However, I feel it’s better suited to larger volumes of food, because when you’re cooking for just one baby you’d have to be batch cooking to feel grateful for this much capacity.

Would you say the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE baby food maker is good value for money?

In terms of price, the Nutribaby ONE is not the most expensive option in its category, but it sits at the top of the scale. I would say it’s too expensive for new mums looking for a temporary solution during the weaning phase, because this food processor offers so much more. However, it’s definitely worth the money if you need a large-capacity family food processor that you’re going to use for many years.

MadeForMums verdict:

I would recommend the Babymoov Nutribaby ONE as an all-in-one food processor for big families who enjoy home-cooking regularly. It looks nice in the kitchen and effectively performs the function of many different appliances, including a microwave, blender and steamer. However, I don’t think new parents who are simply looking to introduce solid foods need a food processor of this size with this many functions.
