A worthwhile purchase if your bump is big early on but could be a false economy if you don't try it on first to get right size for you
The Jojo Maman Bebe Multi-Use Maternity Bump Bandeau is designed to help you extend the life of your non-maternity wardrobe. While a great idea, it doesn’t quite work as well as it could.
There are various styles of bump bands on the market – some billed as the ideal way to allow you to postpone investing in more pricey maternity tops and trousers until later on in pregnancy, others designed to support your growing bump and ease tummy and back pain. The Jojo Maman Bebe Multi-Use Maternity Bump Bandeau falls in to that first category - it’s meant to cover the gap between top and bottoms and even allow you to leave your trousers undone, so you can carry on wearing non-maternity gear as your bump grows.
The Jojo Maman Bebe Multi-Use Maternity Bump Bandeau is a stretchy band of cotton fabric a stretchy band of cotton fabric and can be worn over your bump or doubled up to sit underneath it. It comes with a rather confusing button and buttonhole arrangement to attach it to your trousers.
What we love
I liked the fact that the Jojo Maman Bebe Multi-Use Maternity Bump Bandeau comes in black and white so can be matched to whichever outfit I was wearing. It would also look good as part of a fashionable layered look, and the fabric itself is really soft and comfy. In theory the idea of being able to continue wearing your normal clothes for as long as possible is a good one.
What to watch out for
I found the Jojo Maman Bebe Multi-Use Maternity Bump Bandeau slid up above or down below my bump leaving me flashing more flesh than I’d hoped.
Although I followed the instructions to the letter I was never quite sure it was working correctly as any sort of movement – even just walking briskly to the bus stop – meant my undone trousers would start to fall down and the band would ride up. As I popped out for a lunchtime sandwich I found I was popping out in more ways than one with the top of my bare bum showing where I thought the band should have been!
I think it’s definitely worth experimenting with the different styles of bump band out there until you find one that suits your bump. This is one to try on in the shop rather than take a chance on mail order. Although I ordered the Jojo Maman Bebe Multi-Use Maternity Bump Bandeau in my usual size it was far too big for me, which could be because my bump is on the small size for six months or perhaps the sizes are on the big side and it’s worth opting for a size smaller. Perhaps for me the bump band will work better later on in the pregnancy.
Who is the Jojo Maman Bebe Multi-Use Maternity Bump Bandeau best for?
Mums-to-be with big bumps who don’t want to splash cash on a full maternity wardrobe.
It’s a great idea to prolong your existing wardrobe using a bump band - and if you can find one that fits this could prove a money saving investment. However, for pregnant women with smaller bumps, the Jojo Maman Bebe Multi-Use Maternity Bump Bandeau may not show you its full potential, riding up or slinking under your bump.
