  • Comfortable for baby and parent, folds up as small as a t-shirt, stylish design, no buckles or fiddly clips, good quality, excellent customer service

  • One sling can't be shared unless two people are the same size, expensive

A well designed, scientifically tested, straightforward and stylish sling, the Lifft Sling that can be used for newborns and toddlers alike.

The difference with the Lifft Sling and some others around is that the company has put its money where its mouth is – Lifft Slings have been thoroughly tested in the Movement Analysis Laboratory of a UK university department that specialises in products designed to work with the body. The research showed that in all cases, carrying an infant in the Lifft Sling reduced the inflexion (curve) of the spine, thus improving posture by keeping your spine straighter. Admittedly, I already have a preference for sling-style carriers as I find them so much more comfortable and far less fiddly to get your little one in to, but the Lifft is especially good and a three-mile walk was extremely comfortable for me and my baby.

The company also has an excellent customer service policy of replacing the sling until a perfect fit is found. Slings come in eight sizes and a made-to-measure service is also offered.

What we love

What a relief to find a sling that's so straightforward, comfortable and actually works! The design is simple yet effective. Forget clips and buckles and complicated battles trying to shove your 1-year-old's legs into little holes – this Lifft Sling is brilliant.

It was extremely easy to get my son, Jack, 1, into it and it was comfortable to wear. This is because of the soft, stretchy fabric that's cool and comfortable to wear, and because the weight is distributed evenly across your back. Jack was extremely happy, too, although he is used to being carried in a sling regularly.

Another factor adding to the comfort is that almost personal service from Lifft to ensure the correct fit is found.

The Lifft Sling squashes up like a small t-shirt too, so it's easy to stick in your bag/under the buggy for when you need it.

What to watch out for

One size does not fit all, so you can't share the Lifft Sling with anyone else, such as a partner. Also, it's not the cheapest sling on the market.

Who is the Lifft Sling best for?

Parents after a portable, easy to wear sling-style carrier for their baby or toddler, minus the hassle of buckles and adjustments.

MadeForMums verdict

The Lifft Sling can’t really be faulted. It works exactly as it should, with the backing of rigorous scientific testing, and makes carrying your toddler a possibility not a pain. It packs away to a small size, so it’s easy to take wherever you go, and it’s comfy for you and your child. It’s important you get the right size for you, to make sure you get maximum comfort, thought this will mean it’s can't be adjusted to fit you and another carers.
