It’s the extra touches for softness against your bump that make the Mamas & Papas Slim jean a cut above other denims, although true fashionistas might criticise the high-street styling.
The slim, but not skinny, fit makes these jeans a good all-round option. The wide choice of colours helps makes them suitable for a variety of occasions. There’s a weft pattern (faint stripes running down the jeans) which some might not like, and faded patches on the shins and front and back of the thighs. Other detailing is minimal – just a few studs on the back pockets.

There’s a good range of sizes and lengths to ensure most mums-to-be find a pair that fits – as well as a colour they like.
As mentioned, the slim fit makes these jeans a good all-rounder. They’re laid-back and comfy enough for everyday use or housework, but can be dressed up for going out or even casual officewear.
The addition of polyester and elastane means these aren’t true denims, but do provide a softer feel. The stretch panels in the sides are even gentler against the skin, and there’s also a super-soft lining to the waistband to help prevent your bump being rubbed.
The under-the-bump design means these aren’t obviously maternity jeans and can be worn after the birth if you want. Two stretchy side panels and two adjustable fasteners inside the waistband allow room for growth, and these jeans should be a good fit at any point during your nine months.
What to watch out for
The zip fly is so short as to be almost pointless – and quite tricky to do up.
While the waistband is lined, it’s a shame that the manufacturer’s label in the back sticks out a bit and can itch.
Unfortunately the front pockets are just for show, when they would have been more useful if they functioned properly.
