Momcozy is a US parenting brand offering well-priced, stylish products for both mums-to-be and babies. The brand's U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow is one of two pregnancy pillows offered by Momcozy, and coming in at either £59.99 or £79.99, depending on the fabric you choose, it's their most premium offering.

Less a standard U-shape pregnancy pillow and actually more of a 'G' due to its wraparound length, this pregnancy pillow promises a multi-use design that will help mums navigate pre-birth sleep all the way through to postpartum feeding.

Super comfortable and with a design that can accommodate any body type, it’s a lot bigger than traditional U-shaped pregnancy pillows, which means it's a dream to cuddle but trickier to fit into small beds. It's available in a choice of velvet or cooling material covers.

How comfortable is the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow?

There’s no denying that it’s very comfortable: the first time I tried it (in the dangerous ‘potential for an afternoon nap’ time zone), I fell asleep within 60 seconds! Currently, in the depths of my third trimester, I’m pretty good at side-sleeping. That said, my sleep has been far from fuss-free and I’ve been waking up regularly through the night thanks to a cocktail of aching hips, sore knees and heartburn. (The glamour.) I've found the Momcozy pillow to be great for supporting hips, knees and the bump.

If side-sleeping doesn’t feel very natural to you, let alone comfortable, having the option to align the pillow down the side of your body makes things feel a bit more supported. For example, tucking the pillow between your legs and under your bump means that both feel more cushioned; I’d previously been waking up with stiff hips during the night, but using the pillow in this way helped to tackle that.

I also found the Momcozy pillow to be a great substitute for a traditional bed pillow, offering comfortable, crick-free support for my neck.

Is the pillow firm, soft, or a good balance of both?

While it’s a soft pillow that’s made for sinking into, the U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow still retains a sense of firmness that means you feel nestled and supported, rather than swamped.

According to Momcozy, the pillow is filled with a 'premium polyfill blend'. The internal zipper (which is found by unzipping the pillow’s main zip) means you have the option to remove some of the fill if you want to reduce the height/volume of the pillow. When setting up the pillow, Momcozy advises you to ‘beat, knead and pat’ the pillow before leaving it to stand for 48-72 hours to allow it to ‘fully fluff up’. I only realised that when it was too late, but happily found it perfectly fluffy without having to wait!

Does the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow stay in place overnight?

Yes! I found that it barely moved, regardless of how much I was tossing and turning in the heat.

Is the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow flexible enough for different sleeping positions?

Definitely. I found whichever way I chose to lay, it offered comfort. I primarily used it for side-sleeping, and loved the option of putting one of the soft arms between my knees, or tucking one of the arms under the side of my stomach to support my bump.

The neck rest is a great substitute for a standard pillow. That said, I also found it very comfortable to shuffle down, keeping my head flat on the mattress and underneath the curve of the pillow.

Do you feel supported when sitting up or lying down?

Yes. While it’s a soft pillow, it’s actually surprisingly sturdy and holds its position well. There’s no need to worry that it will somehow flip you off the bed in the middle of the night.

How breathable and soft are the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow's materials?

The outer fabric is made from 100% cotton and is velvet-y soft to touch.

How does the pillow feel in warmer weather or during night sweats?

Testing the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow in the summer at eight months pregnant, I did sometimes find that the pillow could run hot – on one particularly balmy night, it felt as if I was cuddled up with a bulky duvet. But on the whole, this wasn’t an issue, not least because I had my bedroom windows open and a fan on.

FYI, if night sweats are a regular issue for you – especially post-birth – a 'cooling' material option is also available (at a £20 price increase, if you’re purchasing via the Momcozy website.)

Does the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow cover feel soft against the skin?

Yes. The heat meant I was typically sleeping in a vest and shorts, and while I have sensitive skin, there was no irritation or itchiness caused by the pillow’s cover – it just felt very soft to lie next to.

Can the pregnancy pillow be used for lounging, TV watching or reading?

Yes – although it depends on where you’re doing it. If you have a whole sofa to yourself then definitely, but if you’re sharing the space with someone else, the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow might not be the most space-efficient solution.

Equally, I’d say it also depends on how deep your seating is: the size of the pillow means you might struggle to fit on a narrower sofa or armchair.

How well does the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow function as a postpartum support or nursing pillow?

As I’m still pregnant, I haven’t used it for either of these options – but I can definitely see how it would work. From testing how the pillow lays when I’m sitting up, I’d say it would work really well for nursing, if you’ve got a wide enough chair/seating place for it to accommodate you and your baby.

Does it work well for different body shapes, sizes, and bed setups?

Yes – at 57in tall on its longest side, the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow is designed to be used by any body shape, and both my 6ft 2 husband and I found it very comfortable.

If you have a smaller bed, you might want to find a more standard U-shaped pillow option, as the size of the pillow means it can dominate the space.

How easy is it to clean?

The cover is removable and can be cleaned in a standard washing machine. Momcozy claims it can withstand more than 365 washes and still maintain its quality.

Momcozy provide instructions for washing the pillow itself, which involves placing a tennis ball inside a sock within the drum of your machine to help the pillow retain its shape. I didn’t try this but I did wash the cover, which I found came out in fantastic condition. It didn’t seem to have lost any of its shape, size or softness.

While we’re on the subject of the cover, it’s available to order in a range of different colours, spanning everything from a minty turquoise to a soft baby pink.

How easy is it to take off the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow cover and put it back on?

I found the cover easy to take off but harder to put back on; it wasn’t impossible, but definitely took more effort. This was due to the basic shape of the pillow rather than the case losing any of its size or springiness.

Is it easy to share a bed with your partner while using the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow?

Yes and no. I would say a standard double bed might feel a bit too tight space-wise but if you have a larger bed, you should be okay. (For context, my bed is king-size.) If you love cuddling up together at night, it will also make that quite tricky – your partner will most likely end up cuddling the side of the pillow rather than you.

What's in the box?

The pillow is delivered with an informational A4 leaflet that explains how to set up, wash and dry the pillow.

The pillow is vacuum-packed, and if you treat it with care, the bag it’s delivered in can be reused if/when you need to store it.

Is the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow worth the money?

Obviously its size is a real talking point here. While most standard U-shaped pregnancy pillows are exactly that – a long, curved pillow that sits in either a U shape or an N shape, depending on how you position it – the Momcozy is more of a G, with the additional length being what can tuck between your knees or act as a feeding pillow.

If you’re interested in the multi-use element, then definitely. Being able to use the pillow postpartum is a great touch, although if you already have a smaller feeding cushion sorted, you might not see the benefit. Overall, at £59.99, it feels pretty mid-priced for a pregnancy pillow that can be used before and after you give birth.

Where can I buy the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow?

It's available at John Lewis, Boots, Amazon and Momcozy.

MadeForMums verdict:

I would definitely recommend the Momcozy U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow to someone who’s looking for a comfortable, versatile pillow that goes above and beyond the usual remit of a more standard equivalent. However, if you’re strapped for space – or not too fussed about multi-functionality – then you might want to explore other options before you commit.
