Pros

  • Comfy, good looking, a quality finish

Cons

  • Straps don't go short enough for smaller mums

The Obaby Front Baby Carrier is a simple-to-use two-way carrier that manages to be both comfortable and good looking – and comfy for your newborn.

Obaby make pushchairs, highchairs, and nursery gear, like Moses baskets and cots. They also have a two-position baby carrier to their name. The Obaby Front Baby Carrier can be used with its head hugger to have your tiny newborn baby facing inwards. Once your baby has the strength to hold her head up for lengthy periods you can turn her round to look outwards.

I haven’t had much success with the carriers I’ve tried so far with my 4-month-old. Generally I’ve found them too complicated to put on, and between us my baby daughter and I don’t have the patience to put up with the struggling necessary. Happily, the Obaby Front Baby Carrier is a pretty straightforward product made easier by the fact that you can sit or lay your baby on your lap to strap her into the carrier. There’s not too much manhandling required.

The main difficulty for us is that my daughter much prefers looking outwards (and struggles if held into my body without a view), but can’t yet hold her head up for sufficient periods without getting tired. However, I’m confident that as she gets stronger she’ll enjoy being carried in the Obaby Front Baby Carrier.

Why we love it

The Obaby Front Baby Carrier is a snug, well-padded carrier that should give your baby a comfortable ride, as well as keeping her warm in cold weather.

It’s good quality and attractive, as well as being easy to swap between outward- and inward-facing. The instructions were easy to follow and it didn’t take long to work out how to use the carrier or to get it ready for use.

The sheepskin version is classically stylish, while there’s also an animal-print colourway for a funkier look.

What to watch out for

When fitting the Obaby Front Baby Carrier for the first time I would have liked to tighten both the lumbar and shoulder straps more than the maximum possible. I’m average height but quite slight, so if you’re small you could well find you can’t get a good fit from this carrier. I felt that baby Maya wasn’t held in as close to my body as I would have liked due to not being able to tighten the shoulder straps sufficiently, and wasn’t well enough supported.

Who is the Obaby Front Baby Carrier best for?

Taller mums after a straightforward front carrier.
