The OXO Sit Right Seat is an ergonomically designed, next generation toddler loo seat.
I was surprised when I learned that it was the cookery brand OXO who we had to thank for this cleverly designed nursery product.
Upon closer inspection of the OXO brand I see from its website that it has several baby related products on the market such as high chairs, cutlery and dishwasher baskets.
It is also a subsidiary brand of the huge American company Helen Of Troy Limited, which also owns Vicks, Braun, Honeywell, Revlon and Scholl.
Apparently this idea to branch into the baby market came about in the New York office when staff had a discussion on how baby products could be improved.
The trainer seat clearly puts the other clunky ones on the market (John Lewis, Fisher Price) to shame. We shan’t look back in our house; it’s the OXO sit right seat from hereon!
OXO claim the sit right seat helps toddlers to position themselves correctly on the toilet, is that true?
Yes, OXO’s claim is absolutely true! My two daughters who tested the seat aged three and four respectively were able to sit more upright due to the non-slip edge on the base of the toilet seat.
The handles are designed for toddlers to grip as they learn to sit correctly. I was impressed – it was obvious that my daughters were more stable and comfortable with the seat than without.
Can it be used on any toilet?
It can, the seat lives up to OXO’s claim that the seat can be used on any toilet seat. We have tested this seat on a variety of different sized toilet seats and it fits perfectly onto each and every one.
Is it easy to clean?
The OXO seat is one of the more hygienic trainer seats I’ve used, as it fits snugly and firmly to the loo seat thus avoiding any unwanted mess. And the shield underneath prevents any unwanted splatter.
I have found that by comparison my other toilet seats either do not hug the toilet seat as well or tend to slide all over the place. Because it is smaller than other toilet seats the OXO sit right seat is easier to clean (my larger ones don’t fit in the sink).
Is it easy to store when not in use?
Yes, the seat can be stored upright rather than lying purposelessly on the bathroom floor accumulating dirt and dust thanks to its flat bottom.
Tell us about the Sit Right Seat handles?
The handles are sturdy and don’t feel flimsy when you pick the seat up. My other toilet seats don’t have handles, only hooks to hang them up on the back of a bathroom door.
Because the Sit Right Seat doesn’t have a hook, this is not an option. The storage option for the seat is on the floor, sitting upright.
What do you think of its style?
My only small criticism of the OXO seat is that the white and green colour scheme is a bit bland.
Perhaps the design team might consider jazzing it up a bit and adding a girls and boys colour scheme as per their pink and green cutlery set in their Tot collection? I know my girls are always more enthusiastic about all things pink…
The OXO sit right toilet trainer seat is at £15, very good value for money. Not only is it the same price as its competitors, it is an infinitely better product. No parent of a toddler should be without it!
