Our fantastic friends at 5 Minute Fun – the website full to the brim with brilliant ideas and activities that take just 5 minutes to do – have created a delicious microwave mug cake sprinkled with stars. Perfect for autumn and winter evenings and a great way for your kids to join in measuring and stirring.
sunflower or vegetable oil 5 tbsp
semi-skimmed milk 2 tbsp
vanilla extract ½ tbsp
caster sugar 4 tbsp
self-raising flour 8 tbsp
sprinkles or hundreds & thousands 2 tsp
Help your child to pour the oil into a mixing bowl, then help them to beat in the egg, milk and vanilla extract until well combined. Add the sugar and flour and pinch of salt. Beat until smooth.
Divide the mixture evenly between two medium-sized cups.
Into each cup, stir in the sprinkles, or hundreds and thousands, adding a few more to the top to make it colourful.
Microwave for 2 mins and 15 secs at 800W until it’s finished rising and is cooked through.
Leave to cool a bit and serve up the mug cake and finish with a few more sprinkles. The perfect winter warmer.
