Our fantastic friends at 5 Minute Fun – the website full to the brim with brilliant ideas and activities that take just 5 minutes to do – have created a delicious microwave mug cake sprinkled with stars. Perfect for autumn and winter evenings and a great way for your kids to join in measuring and stirring.
Ingredients
- sunflower or vegetable oil 5 tbsp
- egg 1
- semi-skimmed milk 2 tbsp
- vanilla extract ½ tbsp
- caster sugar 4 tbsp
- self-raising flour 8 tbsp
- salt pinch
- sprinkles or hundreds & thousands 2 tsp
Method

Step 1
Help your child to pour the oil into a mixing bowl, then help them to beat in the egg, milk and vanilla extract until well combined. Add the sugar and flour and pinch of salt. Beat until smooth.

Step 2
Divide the mixture evenly between two medium-sized cups.

Into each cup, stir in the sprinkles, or hundreds and thousands, adding a few more to the top to make it colourful.

Step 4
Microwave for 2 mins and 15 secs at 800W until it’s finished rising and is cooked through.

Step 5
Leave to cool a bit and serve up the mug cake and finish with a few more sprinkles. The perfect winter warmer.
