Scientists have confirmed what many mums suspected all along – artificial additives and colourings in food DO affect children’s behaviour.
UK researchers at the University of Southampton studied nearly 300 toddlers aged 3, and discovered that the number of hyperactive children halved when parents removed additives from their children’s diet. And their behaviour got considerably worse when the additives were introduced again.
Fizzy drinks, sweets, cakes, tinned food and ready meals were all culprits.
If your little one turns into a tearaway after eating certain foods, check the label and steer clear of: tartrazine, sunset yellow, carmoisine, ponceau 4R and sodium benzoate.
