Toddler chilli con carne

Suitable for babies from 12 months. Makes six toddler portions


4 tablespoons sunflower oil

500g lean beef mince

1 onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, crushed

1 red pepper chopped

Pinch of chilli powder

½ teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon paprika (optional)

2 teaspoons tomato puree

400g can chopped tomatoes

400g can kidney beans, drained

150ml vegetable stock (made with half a reduced-salt stock cube and hot water)



  • Step 1

    Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan and sauté the mince, onion, garlic and red pepper for 6-8 minutes.

  • Step 2

    Add the chilli powder, cumin and paprika (if using). Cook for 1 minute.

  • Step 3

    Add all the remaining ingredients and simmer covered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • Step 4

    Serve on a bed of rice or mashed potatoes. 

For a family-friendly meal, remove children's portions from the pot then add extra chilli powder or chilli flakes for the adults.
