These pictures are heartbreakingly wonderful. They capture the moment a mum, diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer halfway through her pregnancy, nurses her newborn baby for the first time – on her one remaining breast.
The woman, who lives in the US but hasn’t been identified, had some chemotherapy and then a mastectomy while she was pregnant. She was then induced at 36 weeks, so that she could have further treatment without harming her baby.
Sharing the inspirational photos on Facebook, photographer Kate Murray commented:
“Baby boy was born ready to prove to the world his strength he inherited from his strong mommy. He latched on to her remaining breast all on his own and the room erupted in so many emotions.
“Breastfeeding is such a sacred bond, and this one just makes my heart break and swell at the same time. I am beyond blessed to have met.. this woman and her family, and so honoured she asked me to be there to document these precious moments.”
Kate has encouraged her Facebook fans to share these images and to “continue to pray for this family as they go into their next journey together”. Her Facebook post has been shared more than 100,000 times, with thousands of people commenting and posting their support for this amazing new mum.
