Baby born with heart outside body survives
Against all odds, 10-day-old baby lives after surgery

Born with his small heart beating outside his body, an unnamed baby boy has undergone a four-hour revolutionary surgery procedure, where 13 surgeons successfully operated on his small body. They created a space for the baby’s heart inside his body by shifting his lungs and liver around.
The newborn boy and his parents had to travel 685 miles on a train through Bihar in India in order to have the surgery.
The 10-day-old baby boy suffers from a rare defect, Ectopia Cordis, which affects only eight in every million births, with 90% of sufferers not surviving after three days of birth.
Amazing doctors with his strength, the baby survived the operation and is stable but on round-the-clock supervision to see how he progresses.
