Channel 4 to show live births on Christmas Day

An alternative Christmas message showing babies being born is to be televised on Christmas Day

This year’s alternative Christmas message on Channel 4 will feature babies being born at a Southampton maternity hospital, reports the Guardian.

A medical staff member from the Princess Anne hospital will deliver this year’s alternative message, and a specially made studio at the hospital will document the Christmas Day arrivals, though there will be pre-recorded elements, too.

The show will start with a peak time special on Christmas Eve and then follow the stories of expectant mums in a 4-hour show on Christmas Day.

“I can’t remember the last time Channel 4 gave over its Christmas Day schedule to a live factual event so it’s great to be working on such a bold and innovative production,” said Sanjay Singhal, the managing director of Dragonfly, the independent producer behind C4’s One Born Every Minute, series.

So at 3pm Christmas Day, will you be tuning into the Queen’s speech or the delivery room?
