David Beckham opens up about juggling his family and career

Footballer talks candidly about how playing in Paris has put a strain on family life

David Beckham has spoken for the first time about the hardships of juggling his career and home life.

The Paris Saint-Germain footballer, who is the face of clothing brand H&M’s Spring/Summer 2013 campaign, gave a rare insight into the personal pressures caused by his new life in Paris.

“When you speak about the sacrifices, that’s obviously the sacrifice that I have to make as a father and a husband, being away from my family,” says David, reports CNN World Sport.

“It’s only for a short time, but it’s difficult being away from the children every single day. They understand it, they understand that daddy works hard.”

The doting dad also admitted that his eldest son, Brooklyn, 14, is becoming increasingly more independent and that he has to use certain parenting tactics to make sure he has a normal upbringing.

“My eldest now is at the age where he wants to do things and he wants to go places and you have to hold him back,” says David.

“You have to explain to him there are certain things that he can’t do. But to be honest, with our children, we let them do 99% of the things they want to do because we want them to lead a normal life.”

David, who has four children with wife and former Spice Girl Victoria, makes sure he has quality one-on-one time with his children whenever possible, taking the boys to basketball games and treating Harper to some fun, fashion-filled days out in London.
