EastEnders actress Samantha Womack, whose character who has been involved in the controversial cot death and baby swap storyline, has quit the soap.
The real life mum-of-two is rumoured to have found the plot too distressing and felt that the EastEnders production team had gone too far with trying to shock audiences, according to The Sun.
Said to be putting motherhood first and acting second, Samantha allegedly handed in her resignation last November after being told of her upcoming role.
“The last couple of months’ work have been awful for Sam. The first time she read the script she thought it was wrong and pushed boundaries too far,” an unnamed source told the newspaper. “She wrote a letter on the day she read it and made it clear to bosses that she thought it was wrong – she’ll leave in May.”
News of Samantha quitting the soap comes after it was revealed that a record 3,400 people complained to the BBC after the emotional scenes were screened on New Year’s Eve.
