Good night’s sleep helps you lose fat

Research shows broken nights may make it even harder for new mums to lose their baby weight


If you’re looking to lose body fat, you’re less likely to succeed if you don’t receive a full night’s sleep, according to a new study.


Which is a double whammy for brand new mums who have extra pregnancy weight to shift – but get very little good quality sleep thanks to their new baby!

Researchers at the University of Chicago studied 10 overweight men and women over a two-week period. They were all placed under a strict diet and slept in a lab during the study, with one group sleeping for 8.5 hours a night and the other group only sleeping for 5.5 hours.

They discovered that although both groups lost the same amount of weight (about 7 pounds) those who only slept for 5.5 hours lost muscle rather than fat while they slept.


So even more reason to try and get help to give you a good night’s sleep.
