Is this the baby name ‘trend’ that’s here to stay?

We reveal our mums' top baby name choices from the past year - and there's one theme that keeps coming back...

Here at MFM HQ, we DO love a baby name list – spiritual, unusual, gender neutral – you name it, we’ve covered it.

And when we took a look at the birth clubs in our forum from May 2017 to June 2017 – we saw one baby name theme that just kept coming through.

Yep, the big one was…. vintage! Some of those lovely, classic, old-school names really are coming back into fashion.

That said, we think this ‘trend’ has actually gone past being a trend now – we’ve seen plenty of these classic names making the top spot on these lists for a few years now.

Here’s what our mums were choosing:

Girls vintage names

  • Darcie
  • Sophia
  • Hope
  • Lily
  • Mia
  • Margaret
  • Penelope
  • Charlotte
  • Florence
  • Amelia
  • Nancy
  • Edith

Boys vintage names

  • Edward
  • Thomas
  • Noah
  • Theodore
  • George
  • Alfie
  • Henry
  • Ben
  • James
  • Charlie
  • Arthur
  • Harry

While there were a few names that broke the ‘classic’ mould (we also spotted X-men-inspired names, like Logan and Phoenix), we have to say the vintage names have been HUGE for our mums over the last year.

And speaking to our team – a fair few have said they went for a family name belonging to a grandma or grandad, or at least knew people who did.

What do you think?

Did you go for a vintage name for your baby? Do you like the idea of naming your little one after a family member / having a name that’s past down the generations? Tell us in the comments below or over on Facebook
