Mum shares heartbreaking video warning of the dangers of sepsis: “My baby was gone”

This brave mum-to-be shares her story for Sepsis Awareness Month

September is Sepsis Awareness Month, and to raise the issues around how dangerous it can be, mum Melissa Mead has shared a moving video which details how her little boy William died of sepsis just a few days after his first birthday.

Melissa has set up a Facebook page, A Mother Without a Child, which features a heartbreaking film revealing how William had a chest infection in the weeks leading up to his death, and that she found him, after he had died, in his cot. The cause of death was sepsis.

Melissa is due to have another baby later this month, but is visibly devastated by the fact that her second child will never get to meet her little boy.

The video has received 93,000 reactions on Facebook and has been shared almost 345,000 times. Melissa must be delighted that it has certainly done the job she intended – of letting people know about the dangers of sepsis and what a killer it can be.

One person wrote: “I don’t normally watch videos on here or comment but you, just like me and millions of others, are a mum doing the best she can.

“I am so sorry for your loss of your beautiful little boy. Thank you for sharing with us. I had never heard of sepsis and I will share this with all the people I know.

“Bless you for being so brave and strong. RIP William xxx I hope you and all the other angels taken too soon are playing lots of lovely things up there Xxx”

Another said: “Your video hit a nerve with me – I don’t know what to say, I will share and speak about William, about sepsis, which I too knew nothing about. I’m sorry you lost your little boy, you’re so very brave.”

We couldn’t agree more. Thank you for sharing your story, Melissa – and we wish you well for the birth of your rainbow baby later this month ?
