Two thirds of parents in the UK are worried their children are being exposed to inappropriate TV, as unsuitable adverts and programmes are screened before the 9pm watershed.
In a poll of 1000 parents with children under 18 by Christian charity Mother’s Union, 67% thought unsuitable programmes were shown before 9pm. The poll also found that parents think that television, films, magazine and the internet make children more sexually aware at a younger age than previous generations.
The charity is calling for a ban on marketing or selling goods of a sexualised nature to children under the age of 16. They have also criticised the use of peer-to-peer marketing to pressurize children into buying products their friends recommend.
