A pregnancy test kit has gone on sale for just 99p – making it one-tenth of the cost of the average test on the high street.
The controversial bargain-priced pregnancy test is being sold in the Fabulous 99s store in Crawley – which also happens to have the highest teenage pregnancy rate in West Sussex.
News of the Chinese-made 99p ‘Treat and Ease Clear Response’ kits obviously spread fast, with nearly 150 of them sold in under a week. The test has caused outrage amongst some locals in Crawley, who believe that the ‘pocket money’ priced pregnancy test will encourage under-age sex.
However, the Family Planning Association (FPA) have reminded cynics that pregnancy testing is free at contraceptive clinics, GPs and NHS walk-in centres, so the cut-price test shouldn’t affect the pregnancy rate.
