Pregnant England football captain set to miss Olympics

Faye White annouces she's to become a mum

Faye White, Arsenal  defender, will miss this year’s Olympics as she is expecting her first child.

The 34-year-old football star, who was due to be part of the Great Britain’s women’s football team at the Olympics, has also announced she may be retiring from international football altogether.

“I’m pregnant and I’m going to be a mum for the first time in October,” said Faye, reports the BBC.

“I have spoken to (England and Britain coach) Hope Powell and this will more or less signal the end,” Faye added.

After suffering an injury during the World Cup, which resulted in Faye having to undergo surgery on both knees, it seems she’d already made the decision for this to be her final year playing internationally.

“I have had 15 or 16 years with England and I think that this was always going to be my last year,” Faye explained.

Faye isn’t the only sports personality to announce pregnancy news this week.

We wonder if this signals the start of an ‘Olympics baby boom’?
