Premature baby from viral video defies all the odds
After the 'bun in the oven' pregnancy announcement went viral, baby Kaleb had to fight for his life
Baby Kaleb was famous before he was born – thanks to his mum's incredible pregnancy announcement video.
Dana Graves filmed her husband's reaction to her 'bun in the oven' pregnancy reveal in September 2015 after 17 years of trying to have a baby and 4 miscarriages. And their emotional reaction touched hearts around the world when their video went viral.
And now, Dana is finally preparing to bring her baby, born 16 weeks premature, home.
Last October, doctors told Dana that the pregnancy had caused high blood pressure – that could be fatal.
"The doctor told me, 'If you continue to carry this baby, you're going to die,' " Dana, 41, told People.
Kaleb was born via C-section at 24 weeks weighing just 13oz – and both mum and baby were in a critical condition.
"Day 2 they told me he was not going to make it through the night," Dana said. "They told me I should hold him and say my goodbyes. It was so heartbreaking."
But Kaleb fought and fought – and he's now 20 weeks old and weighs nearly 6lb.
It's not been easy, he's had heart surgery, fluid drained from around his brain and battled chronic lung disease.
But he's finally making progress.
"The first time I heard him cry, it was like music," Dana said. "Everybody sees that he is a miracle – everybody recognises it."
Dana still doesn't know exactly when she'll be able to bring Kaleb home – but the end is in sight.
