Simon Cowell might be the first to admit he comes across cold-hearted at times.
And before the birth of his son, it was often only his Yorkshire Terriers Squiddly and Diddly that would melt his icy exterior.
But talking to Extra, he revealed his surprise at the love for his newborn son he felt immediately.
He said: “I actually said to Lauren beforehand, ‘What if I like the dogs more than him?’ — and she said, ‘You’re gonna be absolutely fine,’ and then literally within seconds of him being born, I got it!”
The X Factor mogul added: “I was born to be a dad!”
Simon also explained how he made it to New York just in time for Eric’s birth after he’d been in London working on Britain’s Got Talent.
He said: “Phone rings at half past five in the morning, ‘I’m about to give birth [said Lauren],’ so we had to find a flight, which we did, and I got there with 2 hours to spare.”
Simon even joked that new mum Lauren Silverman has been more hard work than the newborn.
He said: “Lauren’s actually been crying more than Eric, so I’ve had to put one of those pacifiers in her which she likes! Has to be fed every three hours, otherwise she gets a little bit grumpy, and Eric’s absolutely fine!”
The couple named Eric after Simon’s late father and are soon to bring their baby to London to meet Eric’s grandmother for this first time.
Simon also revealed he wants more kids so they can be as happy as his dogs.
He said: “I wouldn’t rule out [more children]! Well, I got Squiddly and Diddly, and I couldn’t imagine Squiddly or just Diddly… I had a brother when I was younger, so I kind of think it’s cool to have two or three… two.”
